What are we looking for? An exciting opportunity is now available for a Graduate - 3rd Year Lawyer to join our Public Liability team in Perth. This role will suit a proactive, passionate and results driven individual who specialises in public liability, or has experience in another area within the personal injury space, or a mixed practice, and wishes to specialise in Public Liability. You will be working with one of our most experienced and respected practice groups nationally which will see you managing your own files. We offer and encourage flexible work. Slater & Gordon has the largest national specialised public liability practice in Australia. The team have grown dramatically over the past few years, and is considered the pre-eminent Public Liability team. The team handles all sorts of Public Liability claims, involving significant and often catastrophic injuries sustained due to: slips and trips on public or private property; unsafe premises (such as balconies, stairs or other structural issues); dog or animal attacks; physical assaults; defective products (or services); sporting accidents (including recreational and adventure activities); injuries on private property including rental properties or health and fitness injuries (such as massage or personal training). In addition to taking on a wide range of challenging legal matters, this role will also see you manage and strengthen existing community relationships along with initiating and building new networks. You will also be mentoring and guiding more junior staff in the practice group. Experience in both plaintiff and defendant based roles is highly regarded. Your responsibilities will include: Assisting on a practice of pure Public Liability files under the guidance of senior lawyers Drafting correspondence, court documents and advices with close supervision and feedback Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda to support the team Attending client meetings, conferences and mediations with senior team members Helping to prepare matters for settlement negotiations and hearings Maintaining accurate file notes and ensuring matters are progressed in a timely way Building strong client relationships through professional, timely and empathetic communication Actively participating in mentoring, training and development opportunities within the team What will you bring? You will be a committed and enthusiastic junior lawyer who possesses the following: Up to [2] years post‑admission experience, ideally with some exposure to Public Liability or personal injury (including defendant experience) A genuine interest in developing a career in Public Liability and plaintiff litigation Strong written and verbal communication skills High attention to detail and strong organisational skills A calm, easy‑going and resilient nature, with the ability to manage competing priorities Ability to work collaboratively in a team and take direction from senior practitioners Willingness to learn, ask questions and seek feedback Professionalism and an ability to deal with sensitive issues and distressed clients with empathy What next?
